One film that I’ve been aching to see for the last year or so has been the latest from director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, Alps), The Lobster. This delightfully odd sounding film takes place in a future where people must find love in life or else they turn into animals. Amazing.

The film stars Colin FarrellRachel Weisz, and John C Reilly, and opens in UK cinemas October 16th. There’s no official US release date as of yet, but it will be screening at this year’s New York Film Festival, which kicks off September 27th.

An unconventional love story set in a dystopian near future where single people, according to the rules of the Town, are arrested and transferred to the Hotel. There they are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released in the woods. A desperate man escapes from the Hotel to the woods where the Loners live and there he falls in love although it’s against the rules.
