This week’s Kickstart Sunday pick comes to us from the team at Specular, who are creating a new virtual reality film titled Blackout. The film takes place in a NYC subway car that, when the power goes out, you gain the ability to read the thoughts of the other riders. Because the film will be presented in VR, it gives you the ability to roam around in a 3D environment, and listen in on whomever you want throughout the car. As a big supporter of VR as a storytelling medium (and a daily subway rider) I’m definitely excited to check this one out.

This Kickstarter project currently has 17 days remaining with a goal of $30,000 so be sure to click here and show your support by sending a donation their way.

Imagine a World Without Missed Connections

Everyday we brush past crowds of people, many of whom we will never meet. We think to ourselves: What are their stories and how would it change me if I knew what they were thinking? Inspired by this curiosity, we’re creating an interactive film featuring a subway car filled with a diverse group of real-life New Yorkers during a fictional power outage. Blackout transports you into a hyper-real world where you can hear their stories intertwine.
