Whiplash director
Damien Chazelle‘s upcoming nod to the golden age of musicals, titled
La La Land, is set to open this year’s
Venice Film Festival, kicking off August 31st. The cast includes
Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, J.K. Simmons, Finn Wittrock, Rosemarie DeWitt, Sandra Rosko, and
John Legend, and centers on a jazz pianist (Gosling) who falls in love with an aspiring actress (Stone), but their relationship is tested when the two find increasing success in their careers.
As someone who always enters a musical with a fair amount of skepticism, I have nothing but confidence in Chazelle and am actually quite excited to check this one out.
Lionsgate will be releasing La La Land in limited release December 2nd, with a nationwide rollout December 16th.
