Magnolia Pictures has acquired the worldwide rights to Sean Baker‘s Tangerine, which just had its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film, executive produced by the Duplass Brothers, was shot entirely on an iPhone 5s and revolves around two trans prostitutes, played by Mya Taylor and Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, looking for their pimp one Christmas Eve.

According to Variety, the deal pulled in six figures after both A24 and IFC express interest in picking it up.

This is definitely one I’ll be keeping an eye out for, as the buzz has been overwhelmingly positive out of Sundance, and I’ll be curious to see what they were able to pull off visually using just the iPhone (the stills look quite good).
