THE GIVER Trailer Starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep

A new trailer for Philip Noyce’s upcoming young adult adaptation The Giver has been released, which stars Brenton Thwaites whose colorless black and white world opens up after he meets “The Giver,” played by Jeff Bridges.  The story looks to play out very similarly to many other young adult series like Divergent and The Hunger Games, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it should be avoided.  I also got kind of a Pleasantville vibe from the trailer, given the look and themes.

The Giver also stars Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, Taylor Swift, Cameron Monaghan, and Odeya Rush, and is set to open in theaters August 15th.

Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
