According to Variety, the would-be villain of the new
José Padilha directed
Robocop reboot, Hugh Laurie, has backed out of the project. Laurie was in talks to play the evil CEO of Omnicorp since June, however no official deal was signed, and apparently Dr. House decided not to take part.
There’s stil a slew of actors that are taking part however, including
Joel Kinnaman, plus
Gary Oldman,
Samuel L. Jackson,
Abbie Cornish,
Jennifer Ehle,
Jackie Earle Haley,
Jay Baruchel,
Michael K. Williams, and
Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Hopefully an adequate replacement will be found in a timely manner, as shooting for the film will begin soon. Robocop has a release date of August 9th 2013.
