‘Kick-Ass 2’ Casting Complete (Almost)

After the success of the first film, and the release of the sequel comic book, it seemed like a no-brainer that Kick-Ass 2 would be coming our way, however there were a few casting obstacles to contend with before getting this project underway.

When filming the first Kick-Ass, none of the actors had to sign sequel agreements, therefore all new contracts had to be negotiated when attempting to get the original actors on board.  Thankfully, Dealine reported today that it seems like Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, have come to an agreement with Universal, and will be reprising their roles as Kick-ass, Hit Girl, and Red Mist respectively.Deadline also reports that Universal is planning on bringing Nicholas Cage back for a cameo, presumably for a flashback, however Cage’s reps said he has not been approached as of this time.

It should also be mentioned, that Matthew Vaughn, the original film’s director, is producing the sequel, however Jeff Wadlow is set to write and direct.

  1. I am definitely excited to see this sequel even though we know sequels are notorious for being disappointments in most cases (though certainly not all — everyone make a mental note of the exceptions).  I thoroughly enjoyed the first film.  It is a relatively rare example of when Roger Ebert and I greatly disagreed.  He had problems with KICK ASS and awarded it a single star.  Going from memory alone, I would have given it 3.5 stars (following his four-star rating system).  I eagerly await the second film and hope it matches or even surpasses the first.
