John Krasinski announced on Twitter today that, due to increasing concerns surrounding COVID-19, Paramount has decided to remove A Quiet Place Part II from the release schedule for the indefinite future. The horror sequel was slated to hit theaters next Friday (March 20th) and marks the second big release to be pushed due to the pandemic after the latest Bond film, No Time To Die, was moved from April to November.
This could indicate more large releases will follow suit as theater goers grow increasingly (and understandably) cautious to attend public events.
I sincerely hope this doesn’t pack too much of a wallop to cinemas, especially the independents, but with profit margins so low I fear this may be disastrous for the industry. We’re already hearing reports of theaters temporarily closing in France and other parts of Europe, but haven’t seen that as of yet here in the States, however chains like the Alamo Drafthouse are taking extra precautions to keep patrons and employees safe with increased cleaning procedures and additional employee training.
Paramount has not set a new date for A Quiet Place Part II as of yet.
