PREMATURE Review

What if instead of a light, family-friendly comedy, Harold Ramis’ beloved Groundhog Day was a raunchy teen sex comedy? That’s what director Dan Beers must have been thinking about when setting out to create Premature. The film takes the living the same day over and over mechanic and transplants it into an R-rated sex fest filled with dirty jokes and bodily fluids. For what it is, is mostly works and is at times laugh out loud funny, but the gimmick wears out its welcome and the humor loses steam as it progresses.

THE DANCE OF REALITY Review

Try as one might, but it is seemingly impossible not to start a review for Alejandro Jodorowsky’s newest film, The Dance of Reality, without mentioning the fact that the Chilean visionary has not directed a film in a little over two decades. Not only is he back, he is back with his particular brand of psychedelic abstraction, frames upon frames brimming with vibrant, kaleidoscopic set-pieces that only Jodorowsky’s imagination can conjure.

SXSW 2014: DOC OF THE DEAD Review

Through various interviews with some of the genres top stars, Doc of the Dead chronicles the triumphant rise in zombie popularity, and explores the reasons behind one of the biggest trends in horror.  By covering movies, games, comics, TV shows, and things like zombie walks, this film aims to be the ultimate guide in the undead phenomenon.  Unfortunately, it ends up spreading itself too thin, and simply doesn’t go deep enough into the subject matter.  For zombie fans, there won’t be anything in here that isn’t already common knowledge, but it’s still a solidly entertaining film about one of my personal favorite genres.
