Cannes 2013: Award Winners [Update]

Update: Abdellatif Kechiche‘s Blue Is the Warmest Color has been announced as the winner of this year’s Palme d’Or.  The film stars Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux, and is a 3-hour coming of age story about two lesbians in France.  This win comes just days before same-sex marriage becomes legal in France, so it does seem like it was fated to win, however I’ve heard nothing but great things about the film itself. IFC picked up the film for US distribution, so plan on checking it out something this year.

With the 2013 Cannes Film Festival winding down, the Un Certain Regard Awards have been announced, which featured 17 films from 15 countries in competition.  The big prize went to Rithy Panh‘s The Missing Picture, which explores the Pol Pot dictatorship of the 70s.  Ryan Coogler‘s Fruitvale Station was also a winner, picking up the Avenir Prize.  Hit the jump for the full list of winners and check back tomorrow when we’ll update this article with the Palme d’Or winner after it’s announced.
