Kickstart Sunday: BOY FROM WAR

This week’s Kickstart Sunday pick comes to us from director Usama Alshaibi and his upcoming 6th feature, Boy From War. This animated memoir will take a look at Alshaibi’s youth escaping Iraq and growing up in Iowa’s punk scene in the 1980s.

This Seed&Spark campaign is looking to raise $15,000 to complete the animatics for the film, which will be shown to investors in the international market in order to raise production funding. As of this writing the project has 32 days remaining, so be sure to click over to the project page here and consider a donation today!

From LSD fueled encounters with Darth Vader and Saddam Hussein, to Iranian pilots shot down into Iowa City classrooms, Usama Alshaibi blends images and memories to give the audience a taste of what it was like living between two cultures. It’s part refugee story, part 1980s nostalgia, and a unique look into the world of a traumatized teenaged boy as he navigates the Middle East and America, never really fitting into either.
