In 1991, Jon Buice stabbed a gay Houston man to death in a drug-and alcohol-fueled haze. Buice was only 17 at the time. He admitted to his crime and was sentenced to 45 years in a Texas prison. Now, after spending more than half of his life behind bars, he is reformed. That’s what the prison system said when the parole board voted unanimously to release him. Even the gay community activist who helped police crack the case and put Buice behind bars says he deserves parole. Having taught literacy to other inmates while earning three college degrees, Jon Buice even has a job offer when he leaves prison. But Buice’s parole was rescinded and he remains under lock and key in a south Texas penitentiary.
