SXSW 2014: YAKONA Trailer

Here we have the trailer for Yakona, one of the latest additions to the SXSW Festival as part of their Visions programming.  The film looks to be one part nature doc and one part history lesson, showing us the memories of the San Marcos River.  The film is directed by Anlo Sepulveda and Paul Collins and will be screening Saturday, March 8, 9:30pm at the Marchesa Theater.

Hit the break to check out the trailer and synopsis.

YAKONA is an impressionistic journey down the San Marcos River. The film travels from source to sea, through the changing seasons, interpreting the river’s time and memory, and documenting the relationship between ourselves and the natural world. With over 200 springs, the headwaters is one of the longest continually inhabited areas in North America, birthplace of the Coahuiltecan
people and currently being petitioned to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. YAKONA uses stunning imagery, dynamic sound design and an original score to speak directly to the viewer, appealing to humanity’s higher nature to protect this ancient sacred place.
