I first heard about Andrew Dosunmu’s feature-film debut, Restless City, on the Shadow & Act blog over at Indiewire. Honestly, if you would like to follow everything about African and African-American cinema, you need to check out Shadow & Act. Restless City, featuring cinematography from Bradford Young (Pariah and Entre Nos), was an official selection to the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and has garnered some very positive reviews.
Restless City tells the story of an African immigrant surviving on the fringes of New York City where music is his passion, life is a hustle and falling in love is his greatest risk. Shadow & Act reports that the film will open NY, LA, and ATL on April 27, and then expand to Philly, Seattle, Detroit, Chicago and Washington DC on May 4.
