Swedish Film ‘Eat Sleep Die’ Wins Venice Audience Award

Swedish film Eat Sleep Die was just announced as the winner of the Audience Award at this year’s Venice International Film Festival.  The film was directed by first-timer Gabriela Pichler, and centers around an out of work factory girl trying to make ends meet in a small town with a failing economy.  The film is also screening at TIFF, during their discovery section. Hit the jump for the full synopsis and trailer.

Director Gabriela Pilcher’s feature film debut Eat Sleep Die centres on 20-year-old Rasa who lives with her father in a small village in the southernmost Swedish province of Skåne. Rasa works in a factory, but the factory makes redundancies and she loses her job. The film follows her struggle to stay in her village despite the lack of jobs and demands from the government that jobseekers should look for work throughout the whole country. — Swedish Film Database
