The Academy Announces the 9 Foreign Language Films on Oscar Short List

Today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences unveiled the nine films on the short list for Best Foreign Language Film for this year’s Oscars.  Some notable entries include Thomas Vinterberg‘s The Hunt, Wong Kar Wai‘s The Grandmaster, and Felix Van Groeningen‘s The Broken Circle Breakdown.

Some notable missing entries are Asghar Farhadi’s The Past, which I figured would be a shoe-in, Haifaa Al-Mansour‘s Wadjda, and Abdellatif Kechiche‘s Blue is the Warmest Color, which was deemed ineligible due to the release date in France.  Hit the break to check out the full list.

The Broken Circle Breakdown – Belgium

An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker – Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Missing Picture – Cambodia

The Hunt – Denmark

Two Lives – Germany

The Grandmaster – Hong Kong

The Notebook – Hungary

The Great Beauty – Italy

Omar – Palestine
