I find myself somewhat conflicted when I read the news today that Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett (You’re Next, The Guest) are closing in on a deal to write and direct an English language remake of the amazing South Korean thriller I Saw the Devil directed by Kim Jee-Woon.
On one hand, the movie is superb as it stands and it doesn’t seem like a remake is necessary. On the other, if it simply has to be done, I can’t think of a better duo to tackle it than Wingard and Barrett. You’re Next proved to be an inventive and extremely well-executed take on the slasher movie, and The Guest, opening in theaters this week, is a ridiculously fun action thriller.
The Wrap broke the news today, and stated that the two have been circling this project for a while, and have already been working on the script and speaking with actors.
If you haven’t seen the original, now is a great time to seek it out on Netflix Instant.
