Adam Wingard Set to Direct DEATH NOTE for Warner Bros.

Although I’m not a huge anime fan, the Death Note series was one that I simply couldn’t stop watching, so I’m even more interested in the news that broke today announcing Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next) will be directing a live-action adaptation for Warner Bros. I was a bit disappointed in the live-action Japanese film adaptations, so I’m very curious to see how Wingard handles it, especially since it’s a bigger, already established property that’s being developed by a big studio.

If you’re curious to check out the series (and I recommend that you do), you can watch it streaming on Netflix right now.

As far as the Wingard-directed version, we’ll have to wait a while for more details.

Here’s the synopsis of the story:

Light Yagami is a genius high school student who is about to learn about life through a book of death. When a bored shinigami, a God of Death, named Ryuk drops a black notepad called a Death Note, Light receives power over life and death with the stroke of a pen. Determined to use this dark gift for the best, Light sets out to rid the world of evil… namely the people he believes to be evil.

Should anyone hold such power?

The consequences of Light’s actions will set the world ablaze.
