Amy Schumer to Play Live-Action Barbie

Amy Schumer is set to star in Sony’s live-action Barbie movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedienne will be the lead in an adaptation of Mattel’s line of shapely dolls. In addition to starring, Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele will rework a long-gestating script, which included a pass by Diablo Cody.

The film will look to call out issues that have arisen with Barbie’s perpetuation of an unattainable ideal, with the main character discovering that being unique is, in fact, good. The trade reports that films like Splash, Big, and Enchanted are being used as benchmarks. It doesn’t sound especially groundbreaking, but Schumer’s irreverence could add something fresh and interesting to the life lesson. Maybe.
