Benedict Cumberbatch is Thomas Edison in First Photo for THE CURRENT WAR

In the first photo for The Weinstein Company’s The Current War, Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) dons a bow tie and stares off to the side. The inventor looks quite a bit like Cumberbatch’s Alan Turing, Sherlock Holmes, and Dr. Stephen Strange pre-goatee.

Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), the film chronicles the rivalry between Edison and George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) as they each attempt to develop a marketable electrical system. Cumberbatch vs. Shannon sounds pretty amazing to me.

The Current War also stars Katherine Waterston and Tom Holland, and is scheduled for release this year.
