‘BlackFish’ Trailer

Here’s the new trailer for the upcoming documentary BlackFish which takes a look at the treatment of orca whales in captivity.  This looks like an incredibly heart-wrenching film, along the same lines as The Cove, and hopefully it will spark some change like that film did as well. It premiered at Sundance 2013 and most recently screened at Hot Docs and has been garnering a lot of praise by critics.

The film, directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, is set for a July 19th release in theaters, hit the jump for the full synopsis and trailer.

Shocking, never before seen footage and riveting interviews with trainers and experts manifest the orca’s extraordinary nature, the species’ cruel treatment in captivity over the last four decades, and the growing disillusionment of workers who were misled and endangered by the highly profitable sea-park industry. This emotionally wrenching, tautly structured story challenges us to consider our relationship to nature and reveals how little we humans have learned from these highly intelligent and enormously sentient fellow mammals.
