Chan-wook Park to Direct 30s Crime Drama ‘Corsica 72’

South Korean director Chan-wook Park, of Oldboy fame, is set to make his English language debut later next year with the horror thriller Stoker, which stars Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska. Now, it seems, he’s taking America by storm by getting ready to develop another film, Corsica 72, which is based on a Black List script by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who also wrote Skyfall and Casino Royale. The film, which is based on a true story, is set in the 30s, and “follows two best friends who live on the small island of Corsica where they choose different paths in life — one as an honest working man, the other as a gangster — and feud over a woman who comes between them.”

There’s currently no cast to speak of, or any preliminary shooting dates. Park is also working on another Black List script, The Brigands of Rattleborge, but due to the graphic nature of the film, they are currently looking for a big name to star, so the fate of that project is uncertain.

Let’s all just keep our fingers crossed that Chan-wook Park will not fall victim to Hollywood, as so many other Asian directors have in the past.
