Drafthouse Films Acquires Ron Morales’ ‘Graceland’

This week, Drafthouse Films announced their acquisition of the Ron Morales crime thriller, Graceland. This Filipino film is written and directed by Morales, and much of the film’s budget was raised by Morales through a Kickstarter campaign. According to the press release, “Graceland thrusts viewers into the corrupt underbelly of the Philippines’ capital, exposing a world of deceit, exploitation, and startling depravity.”This is the second feature film for Ron Morales, the first being 2008’s Santa Mesa, with Melissa Leo. He’s also worked as a grip in many other films, most notably The Departed and Michael Clayton, but that is hardly any indication of how he fares as a director.

Either way, Drafthouse hasn’t disappointed yet, and I’m personally excited to watch anything they put out.

Graceland made it’s debut at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, and is set for a run at Fantastic Fest, which runs September 20-27, with a limited theatrical run and VOD release early 2013. Here’s the trailer:
