Fantasia 2018: 5 Anticipated Films

First, we took a look at five films to look out for at this year’s Fantasia Festival, now we’re going to highlight five films we’re excited to see in Montreal. There’s a huge number of titles to be excited for this year, so this list is just a smattering of what’s on offer. Fantasia 2018 runs from July 12 – August 2, for more info check out their site at fantasiafestival.com.

Be sure to read all our continuing coverage from Fantasia here.

Tales From The Hood 2 by Rusty Cundieff and Darin Scott

This was a complete surprise when it was first announced as part of the lineup at Fantasia considering I didn’t even know this was a thing. I absolutely adored the first Tales From The Hood and now seems as good a time as ever to deliver a sequel. With the original directors returning along with Spike Lee executive producing, I have high hopes for this one.

Skate Kitchen by Crystal Moselle

I loved The Wolf Pack, Crystal Moselle’s last film, so I’m very anxious to check out her first narrative feature. Starring the real like crew behind the story, Skate Kitchen revolves around a group of female skaters in New York City. Less blood and guts than most other films in the festival, but one I’m beyond excited for nonetheless.

Bodied by Joseph Kahn

I always considered Joseph Kahn’s Detention to be a bit of a hidden gem. It was messy, irreverent, slightly bonkers and a lot of fun. Taking a break from his music video career, Kahn’s next feature is Bodied, a dark comedy about underground battle rapping that’s produced by Eminem. Yep, I’m sold.

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich by Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund

Written by S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99) and featuring a solid cast, I’m hopeful that Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich will be the reboot this franchise needs. The last few entries in the series were so painful, I’m ready for another great, or at least entertaining, Puppet Master movie.

The Man Who Killed Hitler Then The Bigfoot by Robert Krzykowski

Sam Elliott plays an American war hero who sets out to hunt down and kill Bigfoot. Need I say more?
