Focus Features announced today that it has picked up Jean-Marc Vallée‘s Dallas Buyers Club. The film tells the story of Ron Woodroof, an electrician from Texas who goes to battle with the pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed HIV positive. Matthew McConaughey will be portraying Woodroof in what looks to clearly be his most trans-formative role yet.
When asked to comment about the acquisition director Vallée said “I’m extremely pleased that we are partnered with Focus Features. They have a long and successful history of sharing memorable stories. Ron Woodroof’s story is one of an imperfect man and his fight for survival, during a confused and desperate time. We all believe that this film had to finally be made, and we are all grateful and privileged to be part of this project.”
The film also stars Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner, no word yet on an official release, but it were most likely be out by awards season.
