So it looks like Gael Garcia Bernal will be the next to don the black mask and star as Zorro in Fox’s upcoming Zorro Reborn. In this reboot, the tale of Zorro is taking place in a post-apocalyptic future. I’m not making this up I swear. Worse yet, this isn’t the only Zorro reboot that’s coming our way. Sony is racing to finish up their own new version of Zorro, which hopefully won’t also take place in a Mad Max like dystopian future. Maybe we’ll get lucky and that one will be on the Moon.
At any rate, although there isn’t a director attached yet, I’m a pretty big fan of Bernal’s previous films, most notably Amores Perros, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and The Motorcycle Diaries. This does seem like a departure from his other works so maybe we will all be surprised with this one. Don’t get your hopes up though.
