Jennifer Connelly Joins ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Connelly has joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel. Currently in production in Texas, the film is an adaptation of the manga graphic novel. Connelly is reportedly playing a villain. The cast also includes Rosa Salazar as the title character, Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali and Ed Skrein.

Rodriguez is directing and James Cameron, who has been linked to the project since the late ‘90s when it was going to be his Titanic follow-up, is producing. Alita: Battle Angel is scheduled for release on July 20th, 2018.

The synopsis on THR:

Set in the 26th century, Alita tells of a female cyborg (Salazar) that is discovered in a scrapyard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals. The action-adventure story is meant to serve as a backdrop to themes of self-discovery and the search for love.
