Paramount’s Bumblebee, the first spin-off of its Transformers franchise, has found a director. Per Deadline, Travis Knight will helm the film. Knight’s Kubo and the Two Strings was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Animated Feature and Achievement in Visual Effects), and Bumblebee will be his first foray in live action (however much live action is involved in a Transformers movie, anyway).
I think this is an inspired choice. If Knight can bring the same kind of life to a giant robot as he did the characters in Kubo, the blockbuster franchise may be on to something.
Bumblebee is slated to open on June 8th, 2018.
