‘Maniac’ Trailer

Just a few days ago, we posted some quite disturbing images from the upcoming horror remake Maniac featuring Elijah Wood as a serial killer, and now with it’s release at Cannes, we have the first red band trailer.  True to the original 1980 classic, the remake looks every bit as dark and twisted.
Like the original, it appears that many shots of the remake will consist of POV shots from the killer’s perspective.  This can prove to be effective or detrimental to the film depending on how much they rely on this style. Either way, we probably won’t find out if this is something new or a dud for a while, as it’s being shopped around Cannes and doesn’t have a distributor or release date yet. Hit the jump for the trailer and synopsis.

Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
