Michel Gondry adapting ‘Mood Indigo’

Michel Gondry is adapting Mood Indigo, a sci-fi/fantasy novel by French novelist Boris Vian. Mood Indigo is also known as Foam of the Daze or Froth on the Daydream, but you already knew that.

Here is the book description from Amazon:

‘L’Ecume des jours’ (Foam of the Daze) is a jazz fueled Science Fiction story that is both romantic and nihilistic! Vian’s novel is an assortment of bittersweet romance, absurdity and the frailty of life. Foam of the Daze is a nimble-fingered masterpiece that is both witty and incredibly moving. It is a story of a wealthy young man Colin and the love of his life Chloe, who develops a water lily in her lung. The supporting cast includes Chick, an obsessive collector of noted philosopher Jean-Sol Partre’s books and stained pants, and Nicolas who is a combination of P.G. Wodehouse’s fictional butler Jeeves and the Green Hornet’s Kato. The soul of the book is about the nature of life disappearing and loving things intensely as if one was making love on a live grenade!

Amelie’s Audrey Tatou, Romain Duris and recently added French actor/comedian Omar Sy are set to star. I’m not sure what exact characters they will be playing, but I’m sure that this movie is going to be extremely surreal, which is perfectly suited for Gondry. This just could be Gondry’s bounce back movie after the critically panned The Green Hornet.

Vian’s novel was adapted twice before, once in 1968 by director Charles Belmont, entitled Spray of the Days and secondly, a Japanese version was made in 2001 by director Gô Rijû, entitled Kuroe (English title Chloe).
