Oliver Stone’s SNOWDEN Begins Shooting, Announces Full Cast

Filming has begun on Oliver Stone‘s Edward Snowden biopic, titled Snowden, which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the famed NSA whistleblower. The cast is also set to include Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and Timothy Olyphant.

The recent documentary about Snowden, Citizenfour, has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary, and is currently playing in select cities, so I highly recommend checking that out before diving into a fictionalized version of the story, but this sounds promising. The story is based on two recent books- The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man and Time of the Octopus authored by Snowden’s lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena.

Open Road Films will be releasing Snowden in theaters on December 25th.
