Here’s the debut trailer for Richard Linklater’s new film, Bernie, starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey. The story revolves around a small town mortician (Black), who befriends and subsequently kills a wealthy widow (MacLaine), and goes through great lengths to create the illusion she isn’t dead. Richard Linklater has made some great movies in the past, most notably Dazed and Confused, Waking Life, and Slacker, but he also made some not so great films like The Newton Boys and Bad News Bears.
It seems like this director only really shines when he’s making indie films, and my early prediction of Bernie, would be that it will fall under the School of Rock category. Good, but nothing special. What do you think?
