Earlier today, it was announced that Sacha Baron Cohen requested that he be allowed to attend the Oscars this weekend in character as The Dictator in promotion of his new film of the same name. Well, apparently the Academy didn't like the idea and banned him from attending outright.
Not only is he in one of the Best Picture nominees (Hugo), but he is also a member of the Academy. I'm not entirely sure why they couldn't just say "No, you can't do that," and be done with it, but I guess they wanted to be d-bags about it.
So now the Academy is stating that they never banned him, but are holding his tickets until they find out what he's planning to do.
