Shawn Levy to Direct UNCHARTED Adaptation

In the latest bit of news from the on again off again production of Sony’s adaptation of Uncharted, it seems that a director has been brought on board with Shawn Levy set to take the helm. Levy most recently worked on Stranger Things for Netflix after directing the Night at the Museum series. Seth Gordon was previously tapped to direct, but he departed last year and the film has been in limbo ever since.

If any video game series makes a successful transition to film, I would put my money on the Uncharted series as long as it lands in the right hands- the game in and of itself is extremely derivative of Indiana Jones, and with its strong cast of characters and deep, fleshed out narrative, a great movie could easily be produced. If that will actually happen is anyone’s guess.

Uncharted still doesn’t have any casting announcements and no release date, but it was originally set to hit theaters June of next year. Here’s hoping that Hollywood does right by this fantastic franchise and delivers a movie that allows even non-gamers to experience Drake’s adventures. Speaking of, who do you think will be cast as Drake?
