Stefano Sollima Set To Direct SICARIO Sequel

The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, titled Soldado, is moving forward, however it won’t be helmed by Villeneuve and it doesn’t look like lead Emily Blunt will be returning either. Italian filmmaker Stefano Sollima will be directing this one, with Taylor Sheridan returning to pen the script. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro‘s characters will be back as they continue their war against drug trafficking from Mexico into the States.

As a fan of the original, I’m definitely bummed to hear Villeneuve and Blunt won’t be returning, but I’m not completely writing this one off just yet, although this does seem like a film that didn’t really scream out for a sequel in the first place.

Sollima previously directed A.C.A.B (All Cops Are Bastards) as well as the TV series Gomorrah so it seems like this could be a good fit.

Soldado doesn’t currently have a release date as of yet, but production is set to begin this Fall.
