Stephen Gaghan to Write and Direct THE DIVISION Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain

Although the video game turned out to be a fairly generic looter-shooter with a thread-bare plot, The Division may actually lend itself well to the concept of a big screen adaptation, allowing the newly announced writer-director Stephen Gaghan (Syriana, Gold) to expand upon the story of a plague-ridden New York portrayed in the game.

Variety broke the news earlier today that Gaghan will be adapting the story that will be starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.

The Division is the latest video game to movie from Ubisoft who are desperately trying to break the game adaptation curse, but recently missed the mark with Assassin’s Creed despite a stellar cast and director. They’ll also be releasing a Splinter Cell film set to star Tom Hardy, another one I hope proves to be successful, but unfortunately I’ve been let down too many times with these movies to get my hopes up.
