Princess Kaguya Story is being directed by Isao Takahata who also directed Grave of Fireflies. Read on for more info on both films.
The Wind Rises centers on Jiro Horikoshi, who created the Zero Fighter plane in World War II. The thing that makes this interesting, is that all the characters are pig people. If you remember Porco Rosso, this isn’t an entirely new concept of Miyazaki’s. Below, you can see a panel from the comic that the film will be based on, which was also created by Miyazaki.
Princess Kaguya Story is going to be based on a popular Japanese folk tale the “Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.” Although I’m not entirely sure what this tale is about, it sounds pretty cool, and it was referenced in Takahata’s My Neighbors the Yamadas.
I don’t have any US release dates for either of these films yet, and it seems like Ghibli is going to have quite a year ahead of them, but stay tuned and we’ll let you know as soon as we get more information.
