Taika Waititi to Direct BUBBLES, a Movie About Michael Jackson’s Chimp

Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok) has signed on to helm Bubbles with co-director Mark Gustafson. The stop-motion animation film will focus on Michael Jackson’s famous pet chimpanzee, who will narrate his story. It is being co-produced by producers of Anomalisa.

The script by Isaac Adamson was on top of the 2015 Black List, and the synopsis from a couple of years ago is pretty great:

A baby chimp is adopted by the pop star Michael Jackson. Narrating his own story, Bubbles the Chimp details his life within The King of Pop’s inner circle through the scandals that later rocked Jackson’s life and eventually led to Bubbles’ release.
