To Make Matters Worse… The ‘Point Break’ Remake

Alcon Entertainment has announced that the Point Break remake is moving forward and they have tapped The Fast and the Furious DP Ericson Core as the film’s director.  Core previously directed the 2006 Mark Wahlberg film Invincible, but mostly worked as a cinematographer on films such as Daredevil and Payback.

Though it’s not clear why execs thought it would be a good idea to remake the Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze action classic, it’s probably safe to assume they saw dollar signs in revamping the original, which was directed by Academy Award winner Kathryn Bigelow.  Read on for more.

Shooting is set to begin on the film by the end of this year, and plans are to make the story not have a surf culture backdrop, but to be set in the world of international extreme sports, which deems the title Point Break irrelevant.  I’m envisioning Fast and Furious only with motocross.

Core announced as the director is the first bit of big news about the film, but I would imagine cast details will be announced very shortly. Until then, enjoy this video of the best lines from the original.
