Focus Features released the first trailer for Tom Hooper‘s (The King’s Speech) upcoming drama The Danish Girl, starring Eddie Redmayne as artist and transgender pioneer Lili Gebe. The film also stars Alicia Vikander as Lili’s wife, Gerda Wegener.
It seems like there was some sort of Oscar checklist at play for this one as it ticks off nearly every box – It’s got an Oscar winning director and lead actor, it’s a biopic, it deals with timely subject matter, and it appears to be quite a moving story.
The Danish Girl opens in limited release November 27th before expanding wide in December.
The remarkable love story inspired by the lives of artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener (portrayed by Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander ), directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper (“The King’s Speech,” “Les Misérables”). Lili and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili’s groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.
