Tribeca Film Institute to Receive $65,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

The Tribeca Film Institute will be receiving a $65,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in order to create a film arts distribution program that will be made available to incarcerated individuals and public school students through curated screenings. This will be done in partnership with the New York State Department of Correction.

New York, NY – May 15, 2018 – National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $2 million in Creativity Connects grants as part of the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018.  Included in this announcement is a grant of $65,000 to Tribeca Film Institute for a film arts distribution program conducted in partnership with New York State Department of Correction.  The Creativity Connects category advances the role of the arts in the nation’s creative ecosystem by supporting projects featuring partnerships between the arts and non-arts sectors.

“The variety and quality of these projects speaks to the wealth of creativity and diversity in our country,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “Through the work of organizations such as Tribeca Film Institute, NEA funding invests in local communities, helping people celebrate the arts wherever they are.”

“TFI treasures the longstanding support of the NEA,” said TFI Executive Director Amy Hobby. “Through this Creativity Connects grant, we are thrilled to embark on a cross-sector partnership to develop curriculums and screening guides for a selection of TFI-supported short films.”

With NEA’s support, original film content created through TFI’s programs will be made available to incarcerated individuals and public school students through curated screenings and curriculums. Through this process, young people and individuals impacted by the criminal justice system will have access to high quality arts content, and the filmmakers associated with this content will connect with new audiences.
