Tribeca Film to Release ‘No Rest For The Wicked’

Today, Tribeca Film announced it acquired the distribution rights to Enrique Urbizu‘s No Rest For the Wicked, which is currently playing at Fantastic Fest 2012 in Austin.  The film swept the Goyas (the Spanish Oscars) back in February, and is now set for a December release across VOD. NEW YORK – Sept. 21, 2012 – Tribeca Film has acquired North American rights to award-winning thriller No Rest for the Wicked (No habra paz para los malvados), which is currently screening as part of Fantastic Fest in Austin. The film was the big winner at the most recent Goya Awards —the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars— last February, capturing six prizes, including Best Film.

Tribeca Film plans a December release for the film, which is the first outing after an eight-year absence by noted Spanish thriller/film noir director Enrique Urbizu (Box 507, Life Marks). The release will span multiple platforms, including availability on demand in more than 40 million homes through a variety of video-on-demand offerings, as well as iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, VUDU and Xbox.

Santos Trinidad (José Coronado) is a dirty cop with a violent streak and a serious thirst for rum and Coke. During a drunken binge, he murders three people in a bar. A witness escapes from the building before Santos can catch him. While Santos sets out to kill the witness and cover up his crimes, a judge and the police conduct an investigation into the murders. Santos’ hunt for the witness and the parallel police investigation slowly converge to reveal a massive criminal conspiracy that no one involved could have ever anticipated.

The Hollywood Reporter hailed No Rest for the Wicked as a “tense, briskly paced” thriller that deftly juggles intertwining plot lines with surprising and explosive results. The film swept the 2012 Goya Awards with wins for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Sound. No Rest for the Wicked was scripted by Urbizu and Michel Gatzambide and produced by Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson and Alvaro Augustin as well as Lazona and Telecinco Cinema.

The deal was negotiated for Tribeca Film by Nick Savva, Director of Acquisitions, and by Ivan Diaz of Filmax in Spain on behalf of the filmmakers.
