Tyler Perry Ditches the Drag for the ‘Alex Cross’ Trailer

Tyler Perry is taking off the old lady makeup and putting on a badge for the upcoming James Patterson adaptation Alex Cross. If the name sounds familiar we’ve seen Alex Cross before, played by Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. While those films were more police procedural, judging from the trailer, it looks like Alex Cross will focus more on action than detective work.  Perry obviously plays the titular character of Cross, who sets out to stop a brutal serial killer played by Matthew Fox. The film is directed by Rob Cohen, of The Fast and the Furious fame, and also stars Edward Burns, John C. McGinley, Giancarlo Esposito, and Jean Reno.

Although it may be refreshing to see Perry leave his comfort zone, Alex Cross seems like it will be nothing more than mediocre. With a PG-13 rating, we can be sure the brutality if the murders will be toned down, and the action looks bland as well.

Expect to see Alex Cross in theaters October 19th.
