US Trailer For Studio Ghibli Film ‘From Up on Poppy Hill’

Here’s the newly released US trailer for the new Studio Ghibli film titled From Up on Poppy Hill, directed by Goro Miyazaki, son of legendary director Hayao Miyazaki. The US voice cast includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Christina Hendricks, Ron Howard, and Aubrey Plaza, but I know most of you reading this will probably be more interested in seeing the original Japanese version anyway.

The film is a more grounded and realistic story from most of Studio Ghibli’s previous efforts, however I’m sure this will still be a fantastic piece of cinema not unlike all their other projects. Hit the jump for the full synopsis and trailer.

From Academy Award(R) winner Hayao Miyazaki and director Goro Miyazaki comes this uniquely inspired coming-of-age story. Set in Yokohama in 1963, as Japan is picking itself up from the devastation of World War II and preparing to host the 1964 Olympics, the story centers on Umi and Shun, two high school kids caught up in the changing times. With its rich color palette, stunning exteriors, sun-drenched gardens, bustling cityscapes and painterly detail, From Up on Poppy Hill provides a pure, sincere, and nuanced evocation of the past, and marks yet another creative triumph for Studio Ghibli.
