Vertigo’s ‘Fables’ Film Adaptation Back on Track

Though it was stuck in development hell for years, it looks like the live action adaptation of one of my favorite DC Vertigo titles Fables is finally moving forward. The comic was originally being optioned as a TV series on ABC before being dropped in favor of Once Upon a Time, and now it looks like it’s going to find its home on the big screen.

THR reports that Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) is attached to direct, with Jeremy Slater set to adapt the script.  Read on for more.

The storyline takes place in a world where fairy tale characters are real and become exiled to the human world after theirs becomes threatened by a great evil.  The tone is decidedly more adult than the children stories we grew up with, featuring a lot more sex and violence, hence the home on the Vertigo label.

The comic is also still on-going, with over 100 issues in the can, so it’s unknown how much of the story will be included in the film.
