Warner Bros. to Develop the MINECRAFT Movie

Last year, if you told me a Minecraft movie was in development I’d say that sounds about as bad as a movie based on Lego.  Now, I’m not so sure, especially since Warner Bros., who developed The Lego Movie, are the ones who nabbed the rights.  Roy Lee, co-producer of The Lego Movie, has been attached, along with Mean Girls producer Jill Messick.

For those of you living under a rock the last couple years, Minecraft is a wildly successful sandbox game where players around stranded on an island and must craft various tools and structures to survive.  Although the details are sparse at the moment, according to Deadline the film will be live-action.

While the idea sounds like it could be a complete disaster, the game just surpassed 100 million users so a movie version seems like a no-brainer.
