Warner Bros. Picks up ‘Encyclopedia Brown’ Series

Well, it looks like Hollywood is adapting yet another famed childhood property, with Warner Bros. snagging the rights to Donald J. Sobol‘s Encyclopedia Brown series.  This is the latest children’s book to be optioned for a film on top of Goosebumps, Choose Your Own Adventure, and Archie.  What I’m hoping for is some of R.L. Stine‘s Fear Street series adapted into movies, remember those?

Roy Lee and Howard David Deutsch are set to produce the film, however there’s no word yet on a writer or director.  It’s also worth noting this isn’t the first time the series was attempted to be adapted to the screen.  There was a short-lived HBO show and several attempts at creating a movie, with names like Ridley Scott, Chevy Chase, and Goldie Hawn once attached.

My guess is that it’ll either be too silly for adults to enjoy a la Diary of a Wimpy Kid or they’ll go the opposite route and make it for the adult that grew up with the books a la Mystery Team.  I’m hoping for the latter but banking on the former.
