A new international trailer has been released for Werner Herzog‘s latest feature, Salt and Fire, starring Veronica Ferres and Gael Garcia Bernal as scientists who are investigating geological formations in South America when they become kidnapped by a businessman played by Michael Shannon. After it appears that a volcanic eruption seems evident, they must work together in order to prevent an ecological disaster.
The film recently screened at this year’s Fantastic Fest and is apparently pretty bonkers so naturally I’m all in. Salt and Fire doesn’t currently have a US release date as of yet.
The United Nations has sent a scientific delegation, led by researchers Laura (Veronica Ferres) and Fabio (Gael García Bernal), to investigate rare South American geological formations. But as soon as they land, the crew is kidnapped by minions of rogue businessman Matt Riley (Michael Shannon), who has his own agenda when it comes to environmental protection. Deep inside his compound, Laura becomes separated from her fellow explorers and drawn deeper into Riley’s world, but try as she might, she can’t predict his final plan.
