Mondo Releases ‘A Band Called Death’ Poster

In preparation for A Band Called Death hitting theaters June 28th (and currently playing on VOD), the good folks at Mondo made a fantastic looking limited edition poster for the film, with artwork by Jay Shaw.

The film is a documentary about the proto-punk band Death, and how despite playing in the early 70s are just now becoming known.  For more information, be sure to listen to our interview with the film’s directors Mark Covino and Jeff Howlett here, and read our review here.

DEATH was formed by brothers David, Dannis and Bobby Hackney after their father passed away in a car accident in 1974.  David became fascinated with the metaphysical aspects of mortality, as reflected in the band’s lyrics and visuals. DEATH often used a triangular motif as a visual representation of the three life elements.  If I were hired in the mid 70s to create a gig poster for DEATH this is what I might have come up with.
