Directed by arguably the most acclaimed Spanish filmmaker of the last decade, The Skin I Live In paints an unnerving picture of what obsession, sadness, and anger can produce. This is a haunting portrait of a renowned plastic surgeon who becomes determined to recreate his deceased wife by performing countless surgeries on a woman he keeps captive in his home, and that’s not even the crazy part of the movie.
I find this movie to be a more intellectual and thought provoking version of The Human Centipede. Although not as disgusting as the centipede movies, Skin is certainly disturbing and will make you uncomfortable.
I said on my horror top 10 that I would have probably added this to my list, had I seen it before making the list, and that would definitely be the case. I’m not sure where it would fit on there, but this is an excellent piece of cinema and is a must-see.
Almodovar is one of my all-time favorite directors, and this is one of his best films. A twisted, disturbing, and electrifying work of art.
